Carolyn Shnurer

I must admit that Carolyn Schnurer was a name that had not even wandered through my consciousness until, say, 5 years ago. This is what happpens when you focus pretty exclusively on pre-1945 vintage clothing. You miss out on a lot. And you find yourself trying to catch up with a lot of great work from the 50s and 60s that you always were a little shy of because it meant revisiting your own past. Let's not even talk about the 70s and 80s when you have to confront the style choices you made as an adult and see just how............I think that line of thought can stop right now. Back to Ms. Schnurer.

My previous mental file: Who?

Current mental file: A designer of moderately priced women's wear, mostly sportswear and swimwear. Worked 40s - 50s. Well thought out garments with interesting use of cotton prints and rather nice lines. Incorporated ethnic prints and other cultures in her designs. Traveled for inspiration. Used obi style sashes. Did some one shoulder dresses that evoked saris. Stopped work in the late 50s.
